The Miss New York pageant’s motto ‘the dream is still alive…’ basically tells the unknowing reader how New York had been extremely successful in winning/placing in beauty competitions in the past, from the prestigious Miss USA pageant to the obviously more prestigious Miss Universe beauty contest. Therefore, it is wrong to say that New York, given that it is more popular as a district of commerce is just what you call a ‘filler’ candidate in competitions that are all about beauty and talent. Actually, we in the site have used the term ‘extremely successful’ in the first sentence with no intended pun or whatsoever. How successful was New York in those popular beauty competitions in the past, you ask? New York had an unbroken string of placements from 1957 to 1966 as well as a streak of three consecutive 1st runner up placements from 1972 to 1974; that was basically better than Miss California’s record during the said years.

Of course, there is always the idea that the past is past. But while this abode holds true and New York has been failing to make good news when it comes to placing in beauty contests these past few years, it does not mean that the state has given up ‘producing’ ladies that can be crowned the most beautiful and talented in the world. Apart from the successes that the state had in the past when it comes to beauty competitions, the motto embodies New Yorkers’ faith and hope for their state to bring home those achievements again as well.

It is true that North Carolina won Miss USA 2009; obviously, much to our chagrin, this means another failure in the part of our state. But make it a point to visit our site next year — at that time we might have already posted new articles that congratulate New York’s newest successful beauty queen. We strongly believe that it will not take long for New York to ‘produce’ another, Jackie Loughery or Mary Therese Friel or Kimberly Pressler again.
